Welcome to the website of the Haflinger Horse Association New Zealand.
The year of 2011 sees the Haflinger Horse Association New Zealand (HHANZ), while still in its infancy, stepping out to promote the Haflinger Horse to an unsuspecting New Zealand public.
Updated forms will be available shortly from our downloads page, after the success of the 2011 HHANZ AGM.
What impelled us to purchase these wonderful horses? It isn't only their amazing colour, but also their type, personality, temperament and versatility.

The breeding of the Haflinger over the years has been designed to fit with the Austrian way of life. They required a horse that was quiet and tractable, as they needed to be stabled for up to half the year when the snow kept everyone indoors - they also needed to be kept in close proximity to other animals and their human owners. They are a sure-footed mountain pony suitable for working in the Austrian Alps, used for logging, farm work, to pull carts, as pack animals and as riding animals. This versatility continues in the breed today where they are used for dressage, show jumping, eventing, trekking, in harness, as endurance horses, as carriage horses, for vaulting, as pony club mounts, western, ski-joring. You name an equestrian activity and chances are that somewhere in the world there is a Haflinger in that very event.
